A San Francisco Chronicle report this week focuses on the Sunset Reservoir project, which will come up for approval before the city's Public Utilities Commission. The commission was initially set to decide on the matter this week but deferred doing so until later.
According to the newspaper, the five megawatt project would become the largest photovoltaic system in the nation and the largest municipal solar project, sufficient to power about 1,500 homes.
The project would reportedly use the energy generated to power municipal needs like street lights, providing yet another example of the growth of solar in California over the years.
Still, approval of the project is said to be uncertain because of the ongoing debate over issues like the 25-year power purchase agreement between the city and Recurrent Energy.
A report on KPIX-TV says the matter could come up for a vote next Tuesday and that up to 70 short term jobs could be created by the construction of the facility, which would go into operation next year if approved.
