In a recent statement, Henkel announced that its consumer products headquarters in Scottsdale, Arizona is now running on a solar roof array. The photovoltaic panels will generate 56,700 kilowatts of electricity each year while offsetting up to 83,000 pounds of carbon emissions each year.
The facility uses laundry equipment to develop products such as laundry sheets.
Henkel also announced that a solar thermal water heating system will be installed soon, offsetting another 28,000 pounds of carbon emissions per year.
Henkel isn't the only company to recently announce a major solar energy investment. Nestle Purina recently unveiled a solar array in Colorado, with Governor Bill Ritter on hand, that will generate about 100 kilowatts of power with 467 photovoltaic panels covering about 21,000 square feet.
The Nestle Purina solar array is said to be the largest privately owned photovoltaic installation in Colorado, and the first one to be installed on one of the company's pet food plants.
