An announcement by Georgia Power says that the utility plans to unveil a solar roof setup later this year that will highlight the potential of clean energy while also saving money and generating power.
"This solar research project will provide us with valuable data on a small scale of some of the leading-edge solar technologies on the market. What we learn from this project will undoubtedly give better insight into actual performance and economics to further the consideration of solar energy in Georgia," said Ervan Hancock of Georgia Power in a statement.
The company is currently in the process of installing seven different kinds of photovoltaic panels on the roof of its corporate headquarters in Atlanta. Each system is expected to generate about four kilowatts of electricity, with four having already been installed.
The research is expected to continue for at least one year and will also include some new photovoltaic technologies. The company also indicated that consumers will be able to learn about the project's solar energy generation at a kiosk in its headquarters building.
