An announcement from Governor Ed Rendell focused on about $23 million grants and loaned aimed developing the state's solar energy resources, as well as other clean energy technologies.
"Thanks to the groundwork we've laid during the past several years, we are ready to create a brighter future for Pennsylvania's renewable energy industry while advancing our energy independence," said Rendell.
The governor noted that some projects set to receive funding include $5.5 million for a planned 10-megawatt photovoltaic power plant in Nesquehoning Borough, which is part of a large 134-acre solar facility. This will also apparently be the second largest photovoltaic facility in the nation upon completion.
Another large project receiving funding is a 1.6 megawatt photovoltaic system in Montgomery County. The funds will also benefit efforts in Pittsburgh to install solar hot water hothouses in are firehouses, and funding for a solar roof array on a supermarket in Cheltenham.
Some other companies are also receiving funds to help them set up or improve manufacturing operations in various parts of the state.
