Rock band Cake's next album to be produced with solar energy

Posted 2 years ago in the Solar Energy category by Nate Lew
A famous rock band from California has announced that its newest album will be recorded completely with electricity produced by solar energy.

A report in Billboard magazine says that Cake's sixth album is set for release in the spring of 2010 and that the band's studio in Sacramento has been converted to run on solar. Billboard has previously named Cake one of the 10 greenest bands.

The magazine also noted that the band will sell any surplus power it generates to Sacramento's public works department.

A number of other parts of the country give consumers their own option to sell power back to the grid, helping to further promote solar energy while making investments in photovoltaic panels and other such products pay off even faster.

This may be the first time a prominent band has used solar energy to produce an entire album, although some concerts and other events around the country have highlighted their green credentials by using solar power and other renewable forms of energy to power speakers, lights and other equipment.
