The society plans a community outreach program, called "Go Solar in Arizona," to educate Arizonans about the many benefits of solar energy. Its program includes a marketing template for community groups, to make it easier to hold solar town hall meetings that will provide education at the local level.
Robert Hoskins, the society's executive director, said that ASPS "would like to see solar installed on 9,000 rooftops by the end of 2010." Arizona is ideal for solar power, ASPS suggested, because of its abundant sunshine.
The group plans to educate Arizona consumers and businesses about rebates and other incentives that the state and federal government offer. Hundreds of millions of dollars of incentive funds are available, ASPS said. Electricity rates are projected to rise 3 percent each year; buying solar power today will allow Arizonans to lock in low electricity costs for the next few decades, the group added.
