The agreement was signed into effect last week by Ontario Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Brad Duguid, Premier Dalton McGuinty, Samsung C&T Corporation President & CEO Sung-ha Chi, and Korea Electric Power Corporation Executive Vice President Chan-Ki Jung.
The projects will lead to the creation of a series of wind and solar power clusters throughout the province by Samsung and KEPCO over the next 20 years.
In total, the projects will generate up to 2,000 megawatts of wind power and 500 megawatts of solar power facilities by 2016, nearly 4 percent of the province's current electricity consumption.
"The newly enacted green energy law is bringing forth a new green wave in Ontario as it comes into effect," said Duguid. "By executing this project, the Ontario government will be one step closer to taking the lead in the North American green energy industry by securing the industrial infrastructure for low-carbon growth, creating new jobs and establishing a renewable energy cluster."
The first phase of the project is expected to generate 500 megawatts of total energy output and will be completed by the first quarter of 2013.
