Along with the help from state officials as well as the North Eastern Strategic Alliance, the multi-phased project will begin with the construction of a 6,000-square-foot solar academy training center that will eventually be part of a "solar technology campus" near the Port of Charleston in Williamsburg County.
"We are pleased to welcome Solar Energy Initiatives, Inc. to the NESA Region. The partnership that the company has formed with the State will initially create over 200 much-needed jobs and is poised to have an even greater impact on not only the State but the Region as this industry is established in South Carolina," said Jeff McKay, NESA's executive director.
The academy will specialize in training new solar technicians and serve as an area for demonstrations of the latest types of solar energy installations such as photovoltaic solar panel systems. It will also work as a distributor of solar products.
David Fann, the CEO of SEI, added that he expected the academy to establish South Carolina as a leader in the solar marketplace that would lead to even more jobs throughout the state in the years to come.
