Innovalight Inc was issued U.S. Patent No. 7,615,393 that solidified their process of manufacturing "high efficiency selective emitter solar cells" using silicon inks. The process serves to boost the output capacity of the cells while also reducing costs.
Alex Sousa, who served as counsel for Innovalight, said the company was "very happy" with the patent approval and its ability to give them a leg up in the selective emitter solar cell market.
"2010 is going to be a landmark year for our company and this is the first of what we expect to be a large portfolio of interlocking patents covering both enabling materials and manufacturing methods for low cost high performance solar cells," he added.
Innovalight's new technology developments are part of a grand plan to bring solar cell efficiency to more than 20 percent using silicon ink and processing technique.
According to Navigant Consulting, a solar energy research firm, silicon solar cell technologies currently account for 77 percent of the commercial solar panel market.
