Florida waste management company commits to going green with solar energy

Posted 2 years ago in the Solar Energy category by Nate Lew
The largest independent trash and recycling company in Florida has announced a new attempt to go green as it will power its headquarters with solar energy.

Waste Pro USA, which has its headquarters in Longwood, will install a 25 kilowatt solar energy power plant that utilizes photovoltaic solar panel modules on its roof and will be capable of providing 120 kilowatt hours of energy every day.

Able to withstand hurricane-force winds of up to 148 mph, the solar system will also be light-sensitive enough to pick up solar energy from moonlight.

"We're not your usual 'trash' company," says Keith Banasiak, Regional Vice President of Waste Pro. "We've made a concerted effort to make a positive impact on the community, and a solar-powered building is one of our initiatives in the Sarasota-Manatee area."

Banasiak added that Waste Pro would be the first garbage company to utilize solar energy, and that the company would see a return on their investment on the solar project within two years.

Waste Pro offers garbage and recycling services to more than 800,000 houses and 32,000 businesses in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, and North and South Carolina.
