During a visit to the Gamesa Wind USA plant, Rendell announced that $22.8 million in grants through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act had been approved through the Green Energy Works! wind grant program, which will retain or create 387 jobs.
Almost 130 of those jobs will be for the Gamesa plant, which will bring in 50 new employees while rehiring 79 employees who had been laid off previously.
"One of the premier examples in Pennsylvania, if not the nation, of how we can build a 21st century green economy is the Gamesa plant we're visiting today," Rendell said. "With the support of federal Recovery Act funding, this plant will return to full production and start up a second manufacturing line. That means a great deal to the workers who went back on the job this week."
Among the projects that will be undertaken with the grant money will be two 19-megawatt wind turbines at the Chestnut Flats Wind Farm in Cambria and Blair Counties, two 23 MW turbines in Fayette County, and eight turbines from Broad Mountain Wind Energy Center near Frackville in Schuykill County.
