Kohl?s to bring stores up to LEED standards

Posted 2 years ago in the Green Energy category by Nate Lew
In an attempt to become more environmentally conscious in their everyday operations, Kohl’s Department Stores has taken a number of steps to make their stores greener and more efficient.

As part of a partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, Kohl’s will open a new store in Queens, New York’s Rego Park area that will be its first to be built according to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards for retail stores.

Among the green features the new store will feature will be water-conserving plumbing fixtures, recycled building materials, and low volatile organic compound building supplies that will improve air quality.

"LEED stores are one more way Kohl's is demonstrating that retailers can deliver on customer expectations while also being environmentally responsible," said Ken Bonning, Kohl’s executive vice president of store planning and logistics. "As we expand our presence in the New York City area, we're pleased to offer Rego Park shoppers a store that reinforces the shared environmental values of the company and the community."

In addition to the Rego Park store, Kohl’s will also register 58 other store locations for LEED certification as they are brought up to more efficient standards as well.

The Rego Park Kohl’s location is expected to open in March.
