The 417-kilowatt solar electric system, which was the result of a partnership between Sunwheel Energy Partners and Solar Richmond, will bring new green jobs along with solar energy and reduced costs to residents of the town.
The installation also marks the completion of an effort by Real Goods Solar to install 790 kW worth of solar energy in affordable housing areas across the state. The company had previously installed three solar plants in San Francisco.
"Sunwheel Energy is thrilled that we could partner with McCormack Baron Salazar/Ragan, Richmond Housing Authority, Real Goods, and Solar Richmond to create this groundbreaking project," said Jonathan Goldstein, president of Sunwheel. "These systems will generate green electricity for the residents of Richmond Village for decades to come, and the job skills afforded those residents hired into the workforce have provided them a fresh trajectory in the green economy."
Each of the solar energy systems were financed through Power Purchase Agreements that will allow users to benefit from the energy source without any upfront or operational costs.
