The project will be created under an agreement with Portland General Electric, which provides electric utility services to 818,000 residential and commercial customers. The project will be constructed on 900,000 square-feet of roof space over seven buildings and create 2.4 megawatts of solar energy.
"We have made tremendous progress on our global rooftop solar program," said Drew Torbin, vice president of renewable energy for ProLogis. "We continue to see demand for our rooftops because they are ideally suited for solar installations and are immediately available for that purpose. This increased interest from utilities and investors demonstrates that large-scale distributed generation is a real solution for today's renewable energy needs."
The latest project will be the second solar energy project between the two companies. In total, 3.5 megawatts of solar energy will be created for PGE, or enough for 388 households every year.
ProLogis has become a worldwide provider and installer of solar energy projects. The company has installed energy systems on 27 buildings in France, Germany, Japan, Spain, and the United States that combine to create 13.5 megawatts.
