Hawaiian clinical lab chooses Hoku Solar to provide solar energy system

A clinical laboratory providing service to the Pacific islands has commissioned a Hawaii-based solar panel marketing and installation company to build and install a photovoltaic power system for them.

Hoku Solar Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Hoku Scientific was announced as the selected solar energy company by Diagnostic Laboratory Services to install a 339 kilowatt photovoltaic solar energy system at the former Panasonic warehouse in Oahu's Halawa Valley. Once completed, the system is expected to generate more than 490,000 kilowatt hours of renewable solar energy.

The former Panasonic warehouse is in the process of being renovated in order to become the site of DLS's new state-of-the-art laboratory and headquarters.

"Solar power makes good business sense for our company," said Richard Okazaki, president and chief executive officer of Diagnostic Laboratory Services. "The planned PV system will help stabilize operating costs at our new facility, and we are pleased to have the benefit of Hoku's expertise as we work to further integrate clean, renewable power into our operations."

In addition to bringing on Hoku to develop the project, DLS has also entered into a subcontract with Allied Builders System to help construct the solar energy system.
