SunPower Corp. has been awarded a contract by Southern California Edison to provide new solar technology to help generate up to 200 megawatts in solar energy technology.

SunPower will provide their T5 Solar Roof Tile products that will be integrated into a single solar panel, frame, and roof mounting system. The panels will be utilized by SCE to install and operate 250 megawatts of solar energy products on unused warehouse rooftops.

The solar energy systems will be connected directly to local SCE neighborhood distribution circuits.

"The SCE program reflects the growing value of advanced solar panel technology as a reliable, cost-effective energy resource that can be installed quickly, anywhere and at any scale," said Howard Wenger, president of SunPower's utilities and power plant business group. "SunPower applauds SCE's commitment to rooftop solar development, which is unprecedented in the utility industry."

SCE President John Fielder added that the benefits of using SunPower's solar technology would help the energy company attain its goal of increasing renewable energy options to their customers while lowering the cost of solar photovoltaic power throughout California.

With the new contract, SunPower products will be responsible for generating 80 percent of SCE's total solar energy capacity.ADNFCR-2111-ID-19664860-ADNFCR
