The agreement between the two companies will come in the form of a 27-year power purchase agreement for energy created by the windfarm, which will generate 138 megawatts of wind power using 60 Siemans SWT-2.3 megawatts turbines beginning in late 2010. Terms of the PPA were not disclosed.
"St. Joseph allowed us the chance to apply our scientific expertise and our extensive wind experience to develop a highly-efficient wind project that will harness the strong winds of St. Joseph to create a significant source of renewable energy for Manitoba," Mike Garland, Pattern's CEO. "Manitoba is a great place to do business and the local community has been very supportive. We welcome the opportunity to contribute to the local economy while also creating a new source of clean energy for Manitoba and its citizens."
He added that the St. Joseph Windfarm increased the company's wind energy output through their projects to more than 500 megawatts, while the company's total output of green energy to date topped 4,000 megawatts.
The St. Joseph Windfarm is also expected to generate up to 225 new jobs during its construction, along with 15 permanent positions that will remain once it is built.
