In an attempt to spread its reach and provide Californians with more options when it comes to solar energy alternatives, Solar Power Inc. has selected a business park in Sacramento, California to house a manufacturing facility, as well as its new world headquarters.
Pending the finalization of zoning and building permits, the McClellan Business Park will become the new home for the renewable energy company. Utilizing a 100,000 square foot area, the new manufacturing site will produce approximately 50 megawatts worth of solar panels for the company, doubling its current annual production capacity.
"The addition of this renewable energy manufacturing facility is great news for Sacramento and the rest of the State because it will lead to more homes and businesses powered by sunshine while creating jobs in the clean-tech industry," said Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. "California has led the world in enacting policies that harness the sun, combat climate change and reduce our dependency on foreign oil, and it is companies like Solar Power, Inc. that are helping us reach a more sustainable, clean energy future."
Roger Dickinson, the chair of the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors, added that SPI's addition to the area would lead to sustainable economic growth and that Sacramento would be "the ultimate beneficiary of this move."
Construction on the site will take approximately nine months once it is approved. it will also require approximately 120 jobs to be created in order for the construction to be completed on schedule.
