The California-based MiaSole, which specialized in the manufacturing of low-cost copper indium gallium selenide thin film photovoltaic solar panels, provided enough panels to provide 200 kilowatts of solar energy to Project Brightfield.
The Chevron-owned solar testing facility is located near Bakersfield, California and consists of 7,700 solar panels, making it one of the most comprehensive sites in the country. With seven different companies providing solar panels to the project, each one will be monitored as their performances are affected by weather elements.
"Solar energy is one of the most cost effective, efficient sources of energy on earth and we are pleased to be a part of a project that shows not only the power of solar energy, but also how efficient and reliable MiaSole's CIGS thin film solar technology is," said Joe Laia, CEO of MiaSole.
MiaSole' CIGS solar panels are advertised as being able to convert 10.5 percent of the sunlight that hits them into electricity, one of the highest efficiency rates for thin film solar technologies on earth.
