According to Constellation Energy and McCormick and Company, they have agreed to develop a 1.8 megawatt photovoltaic energy system at McCormick's distribution center in Belcamp, Maryland.
McCormick is a well-known company specializes in spices, seasonings and other products.
Construction of the array is expected to begin in late June and conclude by the end of the year. The announcement added that the two companies had already worked together in late 2008 on a 1 megawatt solar array at a McCormick facility in Hunt Valley, Maryland.
"We have had a very positive response to our earlier solar installations from our customers, employees and shareholders," said Alan Wilson, CEO of McCormick. "With this new project, McCormick becomes one of the largest corporate users of solar power in the state of Maryland.
Under the terms of the project, Constellation Energy provides financing, design and construction, and will own and maintain the solar array for the next 20 years. McCormick expects to save about $3.4 million in energy costs over the term of the agreement.
