A recent announcement from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's office highlighted some of the state's solar energy initiatives. For example, the state has a plan seeking to have 1 million solar roof arrays installed in California by 2018, as well as a formal goal of deriving 33 percent of its energy consumption from renewable resources by 2020.
California is also seeking to reduce its carbon emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, which is another positive sign for solar energy's prospects in the state.
More recently, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger highlighted the completion of the first phase of California Edison's Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project. This transmission upgrade will eventually allow 4,500 megawatts of energy from renewable resources to power up to 3 million homes in Southern California.
The transmission lines will carry energy generated by some 5,000 wind turbines in the area, as well as the electricity that will be created when several major solar photovoltaic arrays go online.
