According to ProLogis, which specializes in distribution facilities, it will be launching its second solar rooftop project in California, with the potential to generate up to 11.1 megawatts of electricity. ProLogis also indicated that it has signed a master agreement with Southern California Edison (SCE) to provide up to 100 megawatts of clean energy through the company's rooftop solar program.
Under the deal with SCE, the utility will own and operate the rooftop solar arrays, while ProLogis will receive rental income for the roof usage, as well as construction management fees. Construction on the project is expected to get underway this summer.
"Our first installation in this large solar power project was a ProLogis building in Fontana, Calif. that now provides two million watts of clean energy to our grid," said SCE President John Fielder. "We are pleased to expand this relationship with a company that shares our vision for converting otherwise unused urban rooftop real estate into solar power stations."
According to ProLogis, it has installed solar projects on 32 buildings in at least five countries, including the United States, to cover more than 10.6 million square feet of space while generating 24.6 megawatts of electricity.
