The latest initiative from the state comes in the form of an announcement of $4.4 million in funding over the next five years to develop a renewable energy testing facilities throughout the state.
According to the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the funding will allow Intertek, a testing laboratory based in the central part of the state, to work with partners to develop the testing and research centers. The announcement noted that these facilities could be among the first of their kind in the nation.
"These new testing centers demonstrate New York's leadership on renewable technology development and will give consumers and investors the most accurate information possible on clean technologies," said Francis J. Murray, CEO of NYSERDA. "By serving as a proving ground for the latest renewable energy technologies, these centers will help bolster New York's clean energy economy and our renewable technology infrastructure."
One benefit of these centers will be greater availability of information for consumers about the safety and effectiveness of the photovoltaic and small wind turbines they may be interested in purchasing.
