In fact, the Solar Electric Power Association recently released its annual rankings of the top ten utilities around the country based on the solar megawatts they have added to the electrical grid over the past year.
The top ten utilities on the list combined to add 279 megawatts of new solar energy resources to the grid in 2009, marking a dramatic increase from the 169 megawatts they added in 2008. The report also cited these ten utilities as "a focal point for the nation's solar activity."
Making the top of the list this year was Pacific Gas & Electric Company of California, while Florida Power and Light and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power were also cited.
"We're very excited to see some new names on this year's list, along with the traditional solar utility leaders. We congratulate all our Top Ten utilities for their ongoing commitment to solar power - an energy source that's both clean and increasingly cost effective," said SEPA Executive Director Julia Hamm.
