This week, Tucson Electric Power announced a plan to purchase the electricity generated from various clean energy projects that are still mostly in their planning stages.
For example, the projects include 10 solar energy plants, a project that derives natural gas from landfills, and a wind farm. Combined, these projects will have the potential to power over 30,000 homes in Southern Arizona.
So far, these proposals have been submitted to the Arizona Corporation Commission, which by endorsing the plan could help smooth the regulatory and land acquisition process, among other things.
The solar facilities envisioned in the plan include those that used fixed photovoltaic panels as well as concentrating solar technology. Four other planned arrays would use tracking technology to follow the sun throughout the day, maximizing energy output. The largest of the solar projects would generate 35 megawatts using fixed photovoltaic panels.
