However, relatively few of these projects have been announced for Idaho, which may be better known for cold temperatures than some neighboring states.
With that in mind, Boise Mayor Dave Bieter announced this week during his state of the city address that a $45 million solar array will soon be providing clean energy to local residents. The photovoltaic plant is expected to be built near the Boise Airport.
The facility is expected to generate 10 megawatts of electricity while creating 20 construction jobs and retaining an additional 20 manufacturing jobs. The facility will be located on city-owned property and the power produced will be sold locally under a standard power purchase agreement.
"This is a huge step in the right direction for a more diversified energy portfolio in the Treasure Valley," said Sunergy World President Mark Van Gulik. Sunergy World is an Idaho-based company that specializes in clean energy solutions and services such as power purchase agreements and environmental impact analysis.
