New solar research facility unveiled by DuPont

Posted 1 year ago in the Solar Business category by Nate Lew
DuPont took another step forward with its solar energy business this week as it announced the opening of a photovoltaic applications lab in Delaware.

According to the company, the facility is located in Wilmington and will support materials development for the photovoltaic market. The facility will allow the company's industrial partners and customers, as well as educational institutions and others, to work more closely on advances in solar energy technology.

"This lab will allow us to access tremendous scientific talent to develop the technology and materials for converting the energy of the sun into electricity, contributing to decreasing dependence on fossil fuels," said DuPont CEO Ellen Kulman, who cited the "strong and growing" nature of the worldwide photovoltaic market.

DuPont noted that for 2010, it expects 50 percent growth in photovoltaic sales, with total revenues of $2 billion expected by 2014 for these products.

Throughout the solar energy industry, companies have been spending more on research to create the next generation of highly efficient solar panels. Some companies are also working on advanced ultra-thin photovoltaic materials that will allow more options than ever in the coming years for home energy production.
