The state's PA Sunshine Solar Rebate Program has existed for about a year and is intended to help homeowners and businesses install solar arrays.
"In addition to creating hundreds of new jobs, these projects will be responsible for infusing more than $252 million of private matching funds into Pennsylvania's economy when completed," said John Hanger, the Department of Environmental Protection secretary.
Under the Sunshine Program, more than 790 residential solar electrical and 137 solar thermal projects have been completed so far. Another 895 projects have been approved for construction, while several hundred small businesses are also set to benefit under the program.
Other states have also been implementing their own rebate programs as they work to meet their long-term renewable energy goals. These credits, especially when combined with federal tax credits that will be in place well into the next decade, can go a long way toward reducing the up-front costs that homeowners typically pay when they choose to go solar.
