According to an announcement from Trina, a Chinese company, it will supply solar energy materials to the California utility company. Trina Solar produces ingots, wafers and solar cells, and also assembles photovoltaic modules.
The agreement calls for Trina Solar to supply the utility company with 45 megawatts of photovoltaic modules at agreed upon prices with delivery set to take place between the second quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of 2011.
"This is a major commitment by SCE towards clean power generation, and the fact that they have chosen Trina Solar to supply them with premium performance modules is expected to further increase the Company's global reach and reputation for high quality products and raise brand awareness among key customers in the commercial and utility PV segment," said Jifan Gao, CEO of Trina Solar.
Southern California Edison is planning to cover up to 65 million square feet of unused rooftop space in its service area with photovoltaic panels that will generate up to 250 megawatts of electricity - sufficient to power 162,000 typical homes.
