One such city that has gained media attention in previous months for its green jobs potential is Toledo, Ohio. This is because the city is home to pre-existing manufacturing infrastructure that once provided glass for the auto industry but which has fallen upon hard times in recent years.
A recent USA Today report shed further light on the city's efforts to establish itself as a green jobs hub, noting that business, academic and government leaders in the area are all working together to make this more of a reality.
The newspaper added that about 6,000 people already work in the solar industry in the Toledo area, with more than a dozen solar energy-related startup companies located there as well as a prominent research facility at the University of Toledo.
Looking ahead though, it remains to be seen if the potential of green jobs will be realized for U.S. cities. After all, a number of companies have already been setting up factories and other facilities in other countries because of cheaper labor costs and related factors.
