For example, California has been working to enact a standard that would require 33 percent of its energy to be derived from renewable resources in 2020. Other states have laid out their own similar goals, such as Ohio, which hopes to generate 25 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2025.
In Ohio, at least 0.5 percent of the state's goal would have to be met by solar energy generation.
To help further that goal, this week Dayton Power and Light Company unveiled a 1.1 megawatt solar array in Montgomery County. The array stands on seven acres of land and provides electricity equivalent to the amount consumed by 150 typical homes each year. A total of 9,120 photovoltaic panels are said to be located at the facility.
"We are making real progress toward our goal of making Ohio a leader in the invention, production and deployment of green energy technologies," said Ohio Governor Ted Strickland.
