Vermont utility unveils solar array

Posted 1 year ago in the Solar Policy category by Nate Lew
A new solar photovoltaic project in Vermont will do its part in educating the public about clean energy while also producing electricity.

According to Central Vermont Public Service, a 50-kilowatt photovoltaic array in the town of Rutland features 264 solar panels mounted across 33 stationary modules. The panels measure three by five feet wide.

The electricity generated by the panels will be able to power about 50 average homes under optimal conditions, while it will otherwise provide energy for closer to 11 homes.

"This will be much more than just a solar project. It is a true renewable education complex, with hydro generation across Route 7, and a wind measurement tower that may be replaced with a wind turbine or two in the future," said Governor Jim Douglas. "Together with the educational displays, these generation facilities will educate thousands of Vermont students who will be welcomed in the next few years."

The photovoltaic array also includes six self-guided museum-style educational displays about solar and other forms of clean energy, while schools and organizations will have the opportunity to take formal tours.
