The 12-megawatt facility has been operational since June, but it will be dedicated this week to coincide with the annual dinner held by the Wyandot Economic Development Office. Ohio Governor Ted Strickland will speak at the solar farm's dedication ceremony, as will Ohio State University president Gordon Gee, the Middletown Journal reports.
The Wyandot Solar Farm comprises 159,000 panels and can power up to 9,000 homes, the newspaper says. At the time of the plant's completion two months ago, its owner, Public Service Enterprise Group, said the power it produces will be sold to Ohio utilities under power purchase agreements.
In addition, the farm sourced equipment and services from a number of Ohio companies, helping support economic growth and job creation in the state. The project illustrates how solar installations can create value for a community, in both present-day economic terms and a long-term environmental context.
The solar facility "has helped nurture a incubating clean energy economy that will provide economic and environment benefits for decades to come," Wyandot County Economic Development director Eric Romich noted in June.
