The company, Fort Recovery Construction and Equipment, is renovating a plant it owns in Jay County, Indiana in response to growing demand for solar equipment. Fort Recovery's solar divison, SolarAg, makes solar-thermal systems for homes and businesses.
Demand for SolarAg's products is so strong, the Indianapolis Star reports, that Fort Recovery plans to hire 120 workers at the facility it's revamping. It will need management, sales and production associates - and it expects to begin hiring this fall, when the renovation process is complete.
And, the Indiana Business Journal reports, Fort Recovery's job-creation plans are helping it secure tax abatements and credits. The city of Portland - where its plant is located - is reducing the company's property taxes, while the Indiana Economic Development Corp. is granting it up to $535,000 in tax credits.
SolarAg's expansion plans illustrate that solar power is creating jobs around the country. With solar expected to become more prevalent - more renewable than fossil-fuel power was installed in the U.S. and Europe last year - the availability of green jobs may only increase.
