For the next three months, golfers at a Singapore club will be ferried around the course on a cart equipped with solar panels.
Merging the efforts of Sanyo, Singapore Polytechnic and Marina Bay Golf Course, the effort is projected to save as much as $129-worth of electricity per year. The pilot program will be a three-month period.
Sanyo will provide the solar panels, retrofit the devices, and conduct project management. Singapore Polytechnic will measure battery performance for a one-year period. The golf course will provide the buggy, which will make three rounds per day during the trial period.
Equipping one cart with solar panels costs $4,000 and Singapore Polytechnic will review data after three months.
If the program is successful, Marina Bay Golf Course has plans to convert conventional buggies to solar buggies.
