Taiwan Cement is aiming to build a 100 megawatt plant that is targeting tens of billions of Taiwanese dollars in investment, according to published reports quoting chairman Leslie Koo. They are looking to base the building in Pingtung County.

Solar energy is extremely popular in Taiwan where Inventec Corporation, a renowned contract notebook computer maker, announced last year it will invest the equivalent of $95 million in US currency in solar cells.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company last year announced plans to invest $192 million for a 20 percent stake in Motech Industries, Taiwan's largest solar cell producer. That company also invested an additional $50 million in a US solar-panel manufacturer.
Taiwan estimates its solar energy industry will be worth nearly $6.5 billion by 2020.
