Solar power generation is likely to grow 114 percent during the next year as solar power's popularity will be influenced by government incentives and lowered supply prices, according to an industry study released Tuesday.
Developers of solar power will install about 944 megawatts-worth of facilities converting sunlight into electricity, 92 percent of which will use solar panels, according to the study by the Solar Energy Industry Association and GTM Research. The remainder will use solar-thermal technology.
The groups predicted both methods will generate enough electricity to power about 200,00 homes.
Solar supply prices have continued falling this year due to utility-scale solar power generators coming online.
U.S. government incentives including tax credits and grants influenced the development of U.S. solar power.
California, New Jersey, Arizona and Florida are the states with the most installations, according to the study.
