A Massachusetts company will manufacture foundations and devices for turbines for the proposed wind farm slated to be in Nantucket Sound.
Governor Deval Patrick announced on Wednesday that Mass Tank of Middleboro will create the country's first facility to manufacture the farm's offshore wind turbine components.
He briefly spoke at the Wind Technology Testing Center in metropolitan Boston, stating hundreds of new manufacturing jobs would be created in Massachusetts as a result of an agreement between Mass Tank Sales Corporation, Cape Wind Associates and EWW Group of Germany.
"This is what our clean energy future is all about," the governor said in a statement.
At least 100 and as many as 350 jobs will be created, his statement said. Project supporters say the farm will put Massachusetts on the forefront of renewable energy manufacturing jobs while also dealing with climate change.
"We are pleased that Cape Wind is helping catalyze the emergence of an offshore wind manufacturing and supply chain in Massachusetts," Cape Wind president Jim Gordon said.
