Twenty-one acres of brownfield in South Jersey will be a 5-megawatt solar farm by the end of the first quarter of next year, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

British chemical manufacturer Johnson Matthey will develop the project in West Deptford and purchase the power it generates for 20 years. Constellation Energy will finance and maintain the photovoltaic plant.

SunPower Corp will supply solar panels that rotate to follow the trajectory of the sun's rays, a system that catches about 25 percent more sunlight than fixed panels. The farm is expected to generate about one-fifth of the electricity that Johnson Matthey's requires.

Rather than feeding a regional power grid, this solar plant will directly supply a user.

As part of the incentive package to establish solar farms in New Jersey, Constellation Energy will collect tax credits because it owns the system. Constellation's vice president said the project will help Johnson Matthey maintain stable energy prices.
