Southern Connecticut saw its first solar powered hydrogen filling station open earlier this month, an alternate fuel source that does not generate pollution but assists travel on highways with sun and water.
The merging of efforts between Proton Energy Systems and SunHydro produced a fueling station in Wallingford, where the sister companies are located, according to Business Wire. Their product only will generate water vapor.
"This new SunHydro station is a step away from fossil fuels, and as a nation that’s a path we need to continue to explore," said John Sullivan, owner of SunHydro and Proton Energy Systems. "We believe one of the answers is hydrogen energy and we as a country should continue to evolve a variety of alternative energy options."
The solar-powered station in Connecticut kicks off the East Coast Hydrogen Highway that SunHydro is creating to make it possible to travel from Maine to Florida on sun and water.
"This project shows SunHydro's firm commitment to the advancement of the East Coast's Hydrogen Highway, energy conservation, the environment, and the green collar job market," said Gil Sperling, a senior advisor from the Energy Department who attended the October 15 event on behalf of the Obama Administration. "They are truly innovators and leaders in the green economy and I applaud them for their efforts."
