Prudential Financial believes it has made significant progress toward achieving a 10-year goal it set in 2003: reducing its carbon emissions by 30 percent.
Prudential has installed solar panels on it New Jersey headquarters, devoted the past several years to improving its energy efficiency, and, earlier this week, it celebrated the solar panel installation on its Scottsdale, Arizona facility.
"We don't like to make forward-looking statements," according to Prudential spokeswoman Karen Moore. "But we're on track to meet the goal."
The New Jersey system has 2,678 photovoltaic panels and is expected to produce 500 kilowatts of power. In addition to being Arizona's biggest commercial facility with solar panels, the Scottsdale office has more than 4,500 panels that will generate 885 kilowatts of power, roughly 30 percent of what the building requires.
The company has vowed to keep its options open regarding potential opportunities where it may continue using renewable energy and approach the goals it set for 2013.
"We're always looking," said Michael Perrette, Prudential vice president in charge of corporate facilities. "There are a couple other buildings we’re looking at seriously for solar. We’re also looking at the possibility of wind generation."
