Florida governor Charlie Crist signed a law that enables the state to reimburse solar power consumers with the rebates they signed up for, according to published reports.
As a follow-up to legislators passing bills on Tuesday in Tallahassee, including one to accept $31 million in federal money for rebates, the governor signed the bill on Wednesday.
"I am pleased that the Floridians who have been anxiously awaiting the Legislature's action on this bill will finally be able to take advantage of the energy efficient rebates provided by the federal government," Crist wrote in a statement.
The hopes of thousands of Floridians were dashed when Florida Solar Rebate Program funds expired. But their revitalization began taking shape earlier this month when newly elected legislators vowed to convene so they could work on providing the rebates.
"Environmentally conscious Floridians are helping secure the beauty of our state for future generations, and they deserve to be rewarded for taking the recommended steps to upgrade their homes to environmentally friendly levels," Crist's statement said.
