A Colorado solar developer has embarked on a project to provide solar power free of cost to California residents whose income qualifies them for the perk, according to published reports.
Main Street Power Company of Boulder will work with a Morgan Stanley subsidiary on the public-private partnership that also includes Central Coast Energy Services of California and the Association of California Community Energy Services, which is directing the project.
"This solar energy project is a wonderful example of innovative public-private partnerships that deliver real benefits to low-income citizens," said Arleen Novotney, executive director of Association of California Community.
The Main Street Power Company installs and operates solar projects. The company also sells solar electricity to customers. Its administrators have merged efforts with MS Solar Solutions Corporation, the Morgan Stanley subsidiary, on various projects. One such project was installing one megawatt worth of solar equipment on the University of Colorado Real Estate Foundation. It also performed installation work for the cities of Lafayette and Westminster.
The Main Street Power Company won solar power projects in 36 schools in San Diego and 12 additional sites in Contra Costa County.
