A Maryland company developing a spray coating that can convert a window into a solar panel is working on commercializing the technology, according to published accounts.
New Energy Technologies intends to accelerate development of this project in order to bring it to market. During the next year the company plans to streamline its efficiency, enhance its performance, and improve the system's strength to encourage its durability.
"In upcoming quarters and the year ahead, we anticipate undertaking significant efforts to accelerate our SolarWindow towards commercialization," said John Conklin, president and chief executive officer.
The company is very enthused about its work and it believes the technology will more than triple the productivity of traditional solar installations. They believe it will work best when installed on facades of commercial towers.
"Our demonstration of SolarWindow’s ability to generate both current and voltage on glass surfaces, while remaining see-through, is an incredible technical achievement," Conklin said. It "marks a pivotal maturation point for New Energy, where we have transitioned from early research toward product development, and eventual commercial launch."
