A renewable energy developer has hired a corporation to devise and construct a 20-megawatt solar plant in Arizona, according to brighterenergy.org.

Iberdrola Renewables of Portland, Oregon will hand over tasks to SunPower Corporation of San Jose, California for the Copper Crossing solar plant now being constructed on 144 acres of farmland in Pinal County. Construction will create approximately 200 jobs and is expected to be completed in 2011.

SunPower's "construction experience and established technology allows us to deliver homegrown, clean and reliable energy to our customers," Martin Mugica, executive vice president of Iberdrola Renewables, told the publication.

SunPower will use its "Oasis" technology for the project, which is a fully integrated system that includes modular blocks, a tracking system and built-in cabling.

"SunPower Oasis is a ground-breaking, utility-scale solar solution that optimizes energy production, installation speed, material cost, and long-term reliability," Howard Wenger, president of SunPower’s utility and power plants business group, told the publication. "We are pleased to be installing our Oasis product for the first time on a plant for Iberdrola Renewables, a global leader in solar power development."
