Retail stores are now beginning to realize the benefits that green energy provides. Lord & Taylor has teamed up with Green Mountain Energy Company, a retail provider of cleaner energy and carbon offset solutions, to use renewable energy at its Manhattan and Eastchester, New York locations.
"This renewable energy purchase further helps Green Mountain accomplish its mission to change the way power is made and helps Lord & Taylor send a message to its customers that it cares about the environment," said Scott Hart, president of commercial services for Green Mountain.
Beginning in November, Lord & Taylor will be receiving more than 13 million kilowatt hours of wind power each year to provide energy for both locations. Green Mountain says the savings Lord & Taylor will experience are equivalent to not taking 3.6 million cab rides.
Another retail company who is demonstrating green practices is the Timberland Company. At its new location in Northwest Chicago, Timberland utilized recycled materials and other eco-conscious building practices.
The new building will include reclaimed wood and industrial machinery, recycled stoneware tiles, reduced-wattage LED lighting, water-conserving plumbing fixtures and more. The location will also include a mural celebrating "green spaces" in Chicago.
