Cogenra Solar recently announced its solar cogeneration technology chosen by the U.S. Department of Defense's Environmental Security Technology Certification Program for its Installation Energy Test Bed initiative for 2012, which will help meet military energy goals.

The DOD selected 27 projects for the initiative, which is aimed to meet its goals on environmental, energy and economic performance.

"We are honored to be among the very few companies selected by the DOD to be part of their renewable energy efforts," said Dr. Gilad Almogy, CEO of Cogenra Solar. "This program is a great vehicle to demonstrate solar cogeneration's many benefits to the DOD, such as lower energy costs, reduced dependence of fossil fuels and decreased greenhouse gas emissions."

Cogenra was chosen to provide hot water and electricity at dining halls and residential quarters at U.S. Navy and U.S. Army facilities in California with a $2 million contract.

According to the Energy Collective, the DOD sees energy as a strategic vulnerability, and believes that practicing energy efficiency will allow for a smaller carbon footprint for the government entity.
