Carmanah Technologies Corporation was recently awarded a contract by PowerStream to supply and install a 350-kilowatt rooftop solar photovoltaic system at the Thornhill Community Center in Markham, Ontario.

"Carmanah is excited about the opportunity to work with PowerStream," said Bruce Cousins, CEO of Carmanah. "Combining Carmanah's expertise with PowerSteam's knowledge of the energy industry, and their deep roots in Ontario, puts PowerStream in a strategic situation to make significant in-roads in the FIT rooftop marketplace for PV."

Construction on the new solar PV structure began a few months ago, and it will consist of 300W solar modules from Heliene of Sault Ste. Marie, a provider of SolarDock ballasted racking solutions from SunRise Power of Peterborough and a pair of PowerGate inverters from Satcon of Burlington.

According to pv magazine, the new solar PV installation is one of many in Ontario this year. Canadian Solar Industry Association board member Jon Kieran expects to see new photovoltaic installations in Ontario this year in the amount of approximately 350 megawatts.

The magazine said approval for solar PV installations is now being made easier with the use of feed-in-tariffs to decline prices.
